No bathroom design is complete without a beautiful vanity mirror. Not only will this help to finish off the overall design of the bathroom, but it helps to reflect more light around the room and of course – see ourselves better! So today we are bringing you our top tips on how to choose the right bathroom vanity mirror to help flatter you and your bathroom.
There’s no hard right or wrong choice for vanity mirrors but if you need some quick pointers on what works and initial aspects to be aware of – we’ve got you covered! These tips will definitely get you off on the right track, so let’s have a look…
Size Matters
To start with, you’ll want to decide what size of mirror is going to work for your bathroom vanity unit. This will help you to narrow down your search. A mirror too small will look out of place and be ineffective, while a mirror too large will be too overwhelming for the space.
In general, your mirror should be a few inches narrower than your single sink vanity unit. For example, if you have a 30 inches wide vanity unit, the mirror should be 26-28 inches wide.
For double sink vanity units, you can either install a large mirror that covers both sinks or two individual mirrors. This is largely down to personal preference however many double sink vanities look fantastic with two mirrors and wall lights installed in between and either side. If your bathroom design is small in size, one large mirror will help to make it appear much bigger.
As for the height of the mirror, this will depend on your ceiling height (you may have low ceilings for example) and your personal eye level. Standard vanity mirrors measure 28-34 inches high.
When hanging the mirror, ensure it is at least 5-10 inches from the vanity unit countertop. Depending on your eye level and ceiling height available, you may wish to increase this as necessary.
Which Shape?
Searching for bathroom mirrors online can be really intimidating with the various different shapes and styles available. There are some other ways of looking at this though.
Rectangular mirrors are of course the most popular option – this is a classic shape that will never go out of style.
To soften the space, a circular mirror will be the best option for you. Round mirrors are timeless and stylish. There are many creative variations of this that feature hanging elements to suit a multitude of interior styles and bathroom designs.
Oval mirrors on the other hand provide elegance and class to a bathroom, and perhaps much better suited to more traditional bathroom designs.
Style
So now you must be wondering, “okay but what next?” While the above sections will reduce the options available there is still the element of style that comes into play as well.
For modern bathrooms, a sleek and minimal frame will work beautifully. Or indeed a frameless mirror. You could even inset the mirror so it finishes flush with the surrounding tiles to create a truly minimal look and finish to your bathroom design.
In contrast, mirrors with more elaborately designed frames will suit traditional bathrooms. You then have the choice as to whether you match the metal finish of the faucets and hardware to the frame of the mirror. Or you could match this to any light fittings you have in the bathroom.
Mirrors with a simple frame will suit almost any bathroom design.
Alternative Options
While we have mainly covered decorative mirrors within this post, there are some alternative options that may work better for you. These include mirrored cabinets and mirrors with LED lights incorporated.
These options can be hugely beneficial for those that require additional storage space. Combining a stylish looking mirror with added storage makes these mirrors hugely practical for any bathroom.
